Q: What is a Snorkeling Certification and is it required? (Top)

A: A Snorkeling Certification is a GREAT thing to have, particularly if you plan for Snorkeling Vacations in the future. By having and showing a Snorkeling Certification the Boat Captain, Divemaster or Diving Instructor on the Resort or Cruise ship will know that you have had proper training in how to safely snorkel. The Snorkeling Certification can lead to more snorkeling site choices, usually reserved for more experienced Snorkelers, shorter briefings and longer access to in water time. The Snorkeling Certification is made up of three phases of training:

  1. Academic Knowledge – Your successful completion of the online Snorkeling Course is proof you have completed the requirement.
  2. In Water Training – Working with a qualified Diving Instructor to learn how to adjust your equipment for optimum fit and performance. In water “hand on” training to learn and perfect technique.
  3. Snorkeling Outing – To actually go out and Snorkel, often with staff so they can observe you’re acquired in water skill level, make suggestions and corrections if needed.
